INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIP IN PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

TARGET BENEFICIARIES

The beneficiaries will be the orphans and needy children orphaned due to HIV/AIDS, and other illnesses, needy children from families of the poorest, destitute, homeless, and other forms of vulnerable children. The immediate families of these children will also in turn benefit by raising their general welfare through skills development, and support their livelihood projects. Community Benefits: Integrating children into the broader community by providing them with shelter and building a local school and enrollments in skill development courses will reduce the social divide so prominent in Kenya society. We hope our efforts will create a safer community with fewer children on the streets struggling for survival.

PROJECT LOCATION

The project is located in Kiserian Town- Kajiado County. In Kajiado County like any other area of the Country, there is a growing number of Orphaned and homeless children caused by HIV/AIDS, other illnesses and poverty. In addition to this, these children are often abandoned with no way of tracing their family members. Many of these children live in communities where there are widespread misconceptions about the causes of HIV/AIDS.

Purpose of this Project

The purpose is to reduce the suffering of the orphans and vulnerable children, build their capacity through Provision of basic necessities such as shelter, food, clothing and water. Equally important is the ‘human condition’ in terms of physical health and parental care and protection. Schooling is high on the list as a critical criterion for OVCs to become productive in the society.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT.

OVCs are Weakened by number of factors such as poverty and urbanization and the outbreak of HIV AIDS.

Childhood is the most crucial developmental period in an individual’s lifetime, any damage at this stage can lead to a perpetuation of the cycles of poverty, resulting in intergenerational and/or chronic poverty. Interventions such as universal primary education, and maternal and childcare mitigate against the monumental odds.

The focus of Abba Children Home Foundation is to acquire land and establish a home centre for these children.

As a result of HIV/AIDS death rate so many children have been left as orphans with no body to take care of them and giving them support. Most of the children are left with their poor grandparents and some are left homeless hence ending up on streets.

OVCs suffer heightened risk of malnutrition, mortality and mobility and psycho – social problems.

Child laborers have heighted a rise in percentages of the illiterate, early pregnancies, and related consequences such as infant and maternal mortality rates, increased incidence of those who are infected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS, and drug abuse.

A large proportion of deprived children have acquired psychopathological behaviour, increasingly becoming involved in crime, drug abuse and violence.

There are free government primary schools but the various extra charges make the cost of this school unaffordable to the poor. A lot of typical government school has class sizes of around 70-80. Results are usually poor. Thus a reason to construct a school that can incorporate a good serene ambience to education.

Students can’t focus on learning when they’re hungry, and Many government Primary schools don’t offer food hence starvation causes OVCs to drop out of school and involves in petty crimes, prostitution, early marriages, domestic labourers just to get food to eat.

Health and nutrition can lengthen the life expectancies of OVCs, improve their learning achievement at school enhance their productivity as they grow to adulthood and prevent increased health care cost and social protection later in life.

Contracting a School will enable intake of more OVCs from the streets to cater for their education which will make them more productive member of the society.

Abba Children’s Home Foundation seeks to reduce these barriers, and to put students in the best possible position to focus on their education and thrive.

The government policy encourages intervention mechanisms of voluntary organizations.

There is open support by local and international communities.
